Eve of Easter

Saturday evening. The night before Easter, 2017. In fact, it's Avrie and my fourth Easter together. The stress of school and the longing to graduate have left us eager to get outside and not think of our responsibilities. We spent our time off back home with friends and family. The night before the big day, I surprised Avrie with some berries and San Pellegrino, and we loaded up the van and headed to the lake.

Walked up a dirt road and saw a mini bee farm. Good to see these things around.

Its days like these that make me long for days off, and spending them with people I enjoy being around. Especially people like Avrie. Summers around the corner, and I'm hoping to get back outside and shoot some more photos. I'm psyching. Happy Easter.

Southern California Winter

On Tuesday the 27th, Avrie and I headed north on the 5 freeway in search of snow. Growing up in southern California, I haven't had too much experience being in this strange substance, so I figured we would take a day to search for some nearby fields we could play around in. We only ended up driving 45 minutes to the Frazier Mountain area, and what we found was pretty satisfying. Take a look.

Avrie was born in Indiana and spent a few years there until she moved on to Colorado and California, so she is not a stranger to colder weather.

What did I learn from this day? Snow is fun. And you don't have to travel far to find what you're looking for. It may just be right in your backyard.

Home for the Holidays

I've been on a sort of hiatus the past month or so. With the stress of school and finances, I haven't had much opportunity in doing what I love most. I've found little time for simply taking photos, going on long walks, and even surfing. Luckily, I am back home now, on break until the 7th where I'll return back to school in Santa Barbara.

Yesterday was my favorite holiday of the year, Christmas. If you know me at all, you know I am a huge fan of the season and tend to get very festive, i.e. original Christmas movies every night and listening to festive music since Thanksgiving. As I get older, I find that Christmas comes and goes quicker and quicker by the year. Of course, it seems like it becomes less and less magical. After opening so many gifts yesterday (and don't get me wrong, I love gifts), it was hard not to feel a sense of materiality and just being plain spoiled. I received many things that I asked for, but by the end, I felt like I didn't deserve any of it.

This Christmas in particular has shown me what I truly want, instead of all this 'stuff'. I want to spend more truthful time with friends and family. I want to share sincere experiences with those I don't normally do. The gifts I received is just 'stuff,' and although I was pumped to receive it all, while being very thankful, that 'stuff' isn't going to last forever. But making memories and spending time with other humans goes a long way. My New Year's Resolution is to work on my character, and love those who need to be shown love. Let's not forget what the real Reason for the season is this holiday.   -Sean
