Summer Siesta

It came and it went. For the longest time I can remember, summer is a time of fun, rest, and preparation for the school year to come. As I approach the end of my adolescence, there comes a time when a chapter closes and a new one opens. In my case, this is my last 'summer' ever, as I head into my final year of my undergraduate education.

Summer came to an end almost a week ago exactly, and I've already been back to hitting the books. It's a daunting feeling, knowing the freedom of summer has escaped me, and for the next several months I understand I won't be spending much time in the outdoors. But that's okay. Seasons come, and seasons go. I'll have my day. Here's a few photos from some of my favorite moments of summer.

Eve of Easter

Saturday evening. The night before Easter, 2017. In fact, it's Avrie and my fourth Easter together. The stress of school and the longing to graduate have left us eager to get outside and not think of our responsibilities. We spent our time off back home with friends and family. The night before the big day, I surprised Avrie with some berries and San Pellegrino, and we loaded up the van and headed to the lake.

Its days like these that make me long for days off, and spending them with people I enjoy being around. Especially people like Avrie. Summers around the corner, and I'm hoping to get back outside and shoot some more photos. I'm psyching. Happy Easter.

Dos Gringos

Ahh, spring. An abnormally wet winter with plentiful rain in southern California, enough to move us out of the drought, left me even more psyched for the sun to return and the temperature to rise. The storms hitting the American southwest allowed for a crazy desert wildflower superbloom this spring, one of the most colorful blooms in decades. I craved to see these flowers popping up everywhere, something I've never quite witnessed. So I dropped some pins on Google Maps in southeast Arizona, called my friend Beau to see if he would accompany me, and left the next day.

Beau shares in the same love for Western flicks and dirtbagging it for a few days, so that's exactly what we did. I wore the same shorts and underwear for 5 days, and yes, it was warm out.

The A/C in my van took a dump a few months back, so I've been cruising with the windows down on warmer days. We drove straight through the Sonora Desert mid-day on the way home, and had to lean forward in our seats shirtless just to remain somewhat cool. The heat prompted us to stop by the Colorado River and take a quick dip.

Aside from a dirtbag, Beau is an artist emphasizing in ceramics and pottery. He also makes out to be a pretty decent right-hand man. Check out his work here .
